چکیده

Vision for intelligent vehicles is a growing area of research [5] for many practical reasons including the relatively inexpensive nature of camera sensing units and even more the non-contact and non-intrusive manner of observation. The latter is of critical importance when observing the driver inside the vehicle cockpit because no sensing unit should impede the driver’s primary task of driving. One of the key tasks in observing the driver is to estimate the driver’s gaze direction. From a vision sensing perspective, for driver gaze estimation, two of the fundamental building blocks are face detection and head pose estimation.

Vision for Intelligent Vehicles & Applications (VIVA): Face Detection and Head Pose Challenge

Intelligent vehicles of the future are that which, having a holistic (i.e. inside and outside the vehicle) perception and understanding of the driving environment, make it possible for passengers to go from point A to point B safely and in a timely manner. This may happen by way of providing active assistance for drivers, giving full control to automated cars or some combination of the two. No ...

Thesis Proposal: Creation and Analysis of Differentially-Private Synthetic Datasets

Statistical agencies are faced with two conflicting objectives: protecting the privacy of their respondents, and providing researchers and policy makers with useful data. There exists a large body of literature on Statistical Disclosure Limitation (SDL) techniques, describing and evaluating methods for statistical agencies to share collected information to users while satisfying their confident...

Di-PriDA: A Privacy-preserving Meter Querying System for Smart Grid Load Balancing

The smart grid will utilize appliance-level control to provide sustainable power usage and flexible energy utilization. Given the privacy and efficiency concerns of the smart grid system, we propose a cost-efficient platform called Di-PriDA for support of appliance-level peak-time load balance control in the smart grid, in which data analysis operations are achieved in a privacy-preserving mann...

Quality of Privacy (QoP) for the Design of Ubiquitous Healthcare Applications

Privacy is a complex social process that will persist in one form or another as a fundamental feature of the substrate into which ubiquitous computing (ubicomp) is threaded. Hospitals are natural candidates for the deployment of ubicomp technology while at the same time face significant privacy requirements. To better understand the privacy issues related to the use of ubicomp we place our effo...

Privacy Assessment of De-identified Opal Data: A report for Transport for NSW

We consider the privacy implications of public release of a de-identified dataset of Opal card transactions. The data was recently published at https://opendata.transport.nsw.gov.au/dataset/opal-tap-on-and-tap-off. It consists of tap-on and tap-off counts for NSW’s four modes of public transport, collected over two separate week-long periods. The data has been further treated to improve privacy...
